RESIDENTS THREATEN TO REOPEN ROAD TO ZAMBIA SUGAR PLANT

A Community Leader in Stage 2 Area of Mazabuka District has called for the tarring and reopening of the road that leads to Zambia Sugar Company plant.

Alfred Kagolo tells Byta FM News that the road in question is a Government gazetted road which has since been closed on the pretext that it is not suitable for use.

Kagola says closing the road means residents in the area have to use far flung routes, hence appealing to the Mazabuka Municipal Council to engage Zambia Sugar to have the road reopened.

He cautions that if the request is not considered, locals will take it upon themselves to reopen the road even in its current state as it is public infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Nakambala Ward Councilor, Kelvin Muleya, says he is aware of the closure of the road by Zambia Sugar Company, adding that he wrote a letter to engage the Management, which did not receive positive feedback.

He notes that the road in question passes through Zambia Sugar Cane fields, hence the need for engagement with the Local Authority for a lasting solution.

Muleya acknowledges that residents in the area have to endure additional transport

fares moving back and forth owing to the longer route used.
